Located in the heart of the Negev, Ben-Gurion University is currently home to more than 17,000 students studying in every field from sciences to arts and humanities.
The university was founded on the vision of Israel’s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, whose dream was to develop the Negev desert.
With this vision in mind Ben-Gurion University has flourished into a major center of research and education, drawing faculty and students from
diverse backgrounds.

The student union of Ben-Gurion University has been active for many years promoting students' welfare in various fields, and is a center of cultural, social and academic activities.
The Student Union is housed in the Zlotowski Student Center where students come not only to meet friends at one of the cafeterias or cafes, but also to take advantage of the university's bookstore, clinic, recreation rooms, and employment center. In addition, the newly completed Zlotowski Student Administration Building makes the student center the hub of student life at the university.

Not only does the Student Union facilitate much dialogue between the diverse student body, but it also provides many cultural outlets in which students can unwind from their studies. The Student Union runs weekly lectures, an on campus cinema, two pubs, a dance club, as well as a dance troupe, orchestra, and choir. Additionally the Student Union brings some of Israel’s most popular entertainers to campus for concert throughout the year.

To this end, the Student Union runs a Long-Term Lending Library where students can borrow new textbooks and also an Exam Bank service where students can access exams and their solutions in order to help with their studying. Furthermore, there are constant meetings between student representatives and faculty in order to ensure that students can voice their needs and concerns.
One of the goals of Ben-Gurion University is to connect with the community and the Student Union strives to do this by running many
programs in which the student body can interact with the local population. There are opportunities to work with hospital patients and underprivileged
youth in addition to contributing food and clothing to collections that benefit the local community.
